You don’t have enough time.
You’re stretched too thin.
If only you could master time management, you’d be able to get more done, be less stressed, finally start that project you’ve had on the back burner, etc.
What if I told you that all you had to do was get comfortable using this one word and you’d basically be able to “buy” time back for yourself? You’d use it, right?
But it’s weird, because you use this word on a regular basis, just maybe not in the way that helps with time management.
I have yet to meet someone, who has never at least once felt like a failure. Sometimes it feels like a sucker punch to the gut, full on red-face embarrassment or a low rumble of disappointment.
This week I want to share with you a story that I wrote for the Live in the Grey website on exactly this topic - turning failure into opportunity. In it, I talk about the rocky beginning of my career in the entertainment industry and how I dealt with it. I hope you enjoy!
When I first heard Derek’s Sivers’ 2010 Ted Talk entitled, “Keep Your Goals to Yourself”, I felt crushed. It went against everything I had previously learned and put into play about goal setting. But…after much research and deliberation, I started seeing both sides of it.
See, the gist of Derek’s talk and the research behind it is that the more we tell others our goals, the less likely we are to achieve them. Why? Because our brain gets tricked into thinking it’s already accomplished the goal just by the mere action of verbalizing it to someone.
If you follow me on Instagram you know I travel a lot for work which allows me a lot of "read time” on the plane. This past week as I headed to Miami, I stumbled on an article in Glamour magazine about Toms Shoes. I almost passed over it since I thought I already knew all there was about the brand and their One for One mission - to donate a pair of shoes for every pair sold.
